Samuel Haitz
magic 2gether (from “Having a coke with you”, 2019 - ongoing)
A melee of public and private objects—the memories and desires of artist Samuel Haitz, as well the latent traces of his methodology—conflates “micro-histories of the self with the universal,” yielding obfuscated glimpses into a personal and historic queer autobiography. Essential works of queer art, poetry, and prose are churned through Haitz’s process: rites of appropriation, reproduction, and repetition transform these components beyond their initial status as “readymades.” The overwhelming paradox of a highly produced yet quotidian approach reveals the ways Haitz manages the vast formal and conceptual historical significance of his materials.
